Do all professional sportspeople obtain the rewards that they deserve from their sporting career? This may in terms of sporting rewards, personal rewards or financial rewards, but why is this the case?
Distractions away from the 'sporting arena' can often have a very detrimental effect on sporting performance. In the example of the professional footballer, it is not solely down to how much their contract is worth in terms of the basic salary - but also how the contract is structured, if the club is right for them at that time, if the opportunity presents progression for them and most importantly whether they are happy.
Quite often sports people look to become professionals for their 'love of the sport', however it would be unrealistic to think that this is the sole reason for them to pursue a professional sports career.
