Sports Representation Scenario 3
“An Educational Crossroads”
A Career in Professional Sports or Educational Opportunities?
Born in England but living for some of the year in India (due to his father’s business) Ranjit is an up and coming 16 year old cricket star playing for one of the local semi-professional cricket clubs, and has attracted the interest of many of the major Indian cricket clubs. Ranjit also excels in his academic studies, particularly science, and also has the dream (like his parents) to one day become a doctor. Yet like so many young men cricket is his passion.
Ranjit’s mother, whilst in the UK, consults with ‘Chiron’ on the recommendation of a close family friend, as she sees the long term benefit of Ranjit studying medicine. She also recognises and accepts her sons dream of being a professional cricketer – whereas his father would prefer to see the cricketing dream sacrificed for a good education and subsequent career in medicine.
As such ‘Chiron’ are able to secure an arrangement with a high profile University and a County Cricket Club in England enabling Ranjit to develop as a cricketer whilst maintaining a high level of education, thus benefiting all parties.
Due to the extent of the ‘Chiron’ associate support network Ranjit is able to live with extended family and fully meet with his social, personal, educational, sporting and family requirements.
Ranjit finishes his studies in England and completes a 4 year professional contract with a county cricket club. Ranjit never made it as the next Sachin Tendulkar, however, he was able to spend his summers in the UK playing county cricket and working as a locum doctor before returning to India to work as a doctor.
Ranjit remained with ‘Chiron’ for the remainder of his cricketing career even having one season in the highly revered Indian one day league, and Ranjit’s two sons also show great cricketing promise and may one day turn to work with ‘Chiron’.
